The Ideal Temperature to Keep Your Pool and Why

Pool owners here in Dallas are ramping up pool maintenance to get ready for summer. But there’s one thing that is hotly debated when it comes to pool maintenance and that is water temperature. So what is the ideal temperature to keep your pool? The short answer is 85 degrees. The long answer is it depends on your activities.

Higher temperatures are therapeutic
The United States Water Fitness Association suggests water temperatures based on the swimmer. While pools should never be above 95 degrees, anywhere in the 90-92 degree range creates a comfortable, yet therapeutically warm environment for older swimmers or infants and toddlers learning how to swim.

Keep it cool for competitions
Athletes require different conditions. If you are swimming for fitness, cooler temperatures of 82 degrees or under is recommended otherwise you’ll overheat and performance will suffer.

Find the sweet spot
Remember earlier when we said 85 degrees was the ideal temperature? This is the sweet spot for most swimmers who are simply swimming or floating around the pool for leisure and fun.

Ultimately you want your pool to be comfortable and safe for the people who use it. Whatever temperature you set your pool at, make sure it fits the activities your swimmers have planned.
